Although I do not celebrate christmas as a religious holiday(I'm not Christian), I celebrate it as a typical American.
I want to know, what would be the best thing to get my mother for this national holiday? The only thing I can think of would be to get her something that she personally wouldn't want; quite frankly, I choose gifts based upon what I would wan't not what she would.
What should I do?

I always made my Mom a beautiful Gift Basket. And she loved it. Go to your local Dollar General. Get one of those big wicker laundry baskets. Then buy all the things you know she uses around the house all the time. Laundry detergent, bleach, paper towels, toilet paper, dish detergent, Tooth paste, Soaps, deodorant, Shampoo, Perfume, etc. You get the idea. Your Mom probably buys this stuff all the time. Save her the trouble. I even throw in little trinkets. Earrings, necklace etc.
Than wrap it really nice with a big bow. Trust me. She'll love it! I'm a Mom, and that is a perfect gift. Have fun with it. Good Luck.

Give your Mom gift certificates or gift cards to different establishments. One year I gave my Mom a rosary bracelet that I had Blessed by a priest. Another year a combination Mother's Day & Birthday gift (2-3 days apart) - I went to Chinatown and purchased a bubblegum pink lounging outfit with a dragon on the front and back, and it still looks new (1990).

I don't know how much money you have or if you have any siblings but my siblings and I got our mom a family ring for Christmas. She loved it. Other than that, Gift Certificates! You can't go wrong with them!

Well, as a mom, I can say that I love it when they just think of me. Last year my son who was in college in Canada got me a thimble. I collect thimbles from all over the world. And just knowing that he knew me enough to get something like that meant the world to me.
Get her something that will remind her of some special part she had in raising you.

Something for the home would be nice...and maybe personalize it...a plaque, gift basket, custom luggage tags, etc.
