Why can tailed amphibians replace lost limbs when other vertebrates cannot?

Some reptiles can regenerate, as well as some mammals, specifically squirrels who can regrow part of their tale if it's removed.

It just depends on the animal.

My understanding was that regeneration was only in their tails.
