First Bull Run....The Confederates won that one handily.

Antietem: Really a draw, but since the Confederats eneded up leaving the battlefield, the Union could and did claim victory....this let Lincoln issue the Emacipation Proclimation from a position of strength.

Little Bighorn: NOT a Civil War battle came after the civil war (1872?).....General Custer and the 7th Calvary were up against the Souix indians. Custer and his men were wiped out.

Do some reading....this is really actually some pretty cool stuff.

The South won the battle of the bull run, The Indians won at little big horn, at the battle of Antietam the North won. The importance of these battles With the south winning the first battle at Bull Run insured that the civil war would continue until a clear winner was decided. The battle at Antietam was one of the most bloodiest battles fought during the Civil War And both side were looking forward to the end of the Civil war after that battle. But the plan for bleeding the South dry came fully into the mind of the North. As for little Big Horn The Indians were made to really suffer for all times. They made a hero out of a real loser (Custer) The man who hated Indians, Black, And the Mexicans. And he butchered all of them in ways that history books still don't want to add those items........... But the public library has the full story for you to read so pay your public library a visit.................... And read the Indians side of battle of the Little Big Horn for it will blow your mind............................................

i think it was the north
they are important because usually battles were staged nearby important towns like Richmond
if the defenders lost then they lost the city
plus, the defeated army would usually lose a LARGE amount of men
