Always dress for the job you'd want.

Even for fast food, I dress in dress clothes, and usually outdress the manager.

Showing that you take the time to show respect for yourself and the job goes very far in the hiring decision.

I interview people all day long and have been doing it for 3 years. NEVER wear jeans or tennis shoes.

Honestly, wear a pair of khakis, a button down shirt (long sleeve) and a tie. Wear a tie. It will add instant credibility and make you appear to be very professional. Dress to impress.

My impression of someone who wears jeans and tennis shoes to an interview. They are sloppy, didn't put any effort into preparing for this interview, and those attributes will carry over to the job.

If you want the job, dress up.

It's never ok to wear jeans to an interview. I can see your point on how it's not really a corporate environment, but you never know who you will meet that day. It could be a district manager. You just want them to get a good first impression. I'd say for the interview you could get away with some khakis and a polo. Make sure they are ironed and that your shoes are clean, no sneakers.

Never wear jeans, shorts or tennis shoes to an interview. Wear pants, (or skirt) and a button down top (blouse). Wear a tie if you have one. Its a market so you don't need to wear a suit. If you don't have these clothes go to your local thrift and look at nice slacks and shirts. Good luck. Dress to impress!

How you dress reflects your desire for the job. If you don't make any special effort in what you wear, then you show no real desire. Wear slacks, nice shirt, decent shoes, maybe a tie . . . you've made an effort for the occasion, and that reflects your desire for the job and that you respect the hiring process.
