How do you deal with the situation when "no best answer" is found in the question I have already asked? In my case -- I have voted on none and I felt strongly there was "no best answer". Later on, I receive an e-mail from yahoo answers that someone or two, OR three people -- voted on my behalf!for "the best answer!" I find, this method strange and puzzling -- I am the only person to judge whether or
not "there is/was a best answer" -- for someone else to speak and vote on my behalf without consulting me -- is strange! to say the least. Let me know what you think? Can we the "asker" change the rules of the game? if yes, how? if not -- why not? Your comments will be appreciated -- and remember I will vote only if I find "a best answer" amongst your replies. If not, I will just pass by. Is that ok? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Well, not every question gets very good answers. But since the scoring system is based on voting for best answers when the asker doesn't choose a best answer and also awards 10 extra points for the "best answer" (chosen by the asker or chosen on the basis of votes), this is a way to wrap up questions in a timely fashion. If you don't get good answers, you can try extending the question's life or adding comments to the original question.

As a community Q & A system, voting stands in when the asker doesn't like any answers or just doesn't care to vote on a "best answer" (or just doesn't care, period.) It's just a way of keeping the whole thing moving--otherwise, some questions are trapped in limbo.

And why are you asking questions when you don't want to judge the answers? Were they all identical? Surely one was better than the others. But if you don't choose a best answer, no biggie, since you let voters get 2 points per vote. It's fair (and if you don't like it, you probably should have read the rules before you decided not to choose your own best answer.)

It says alot that you have no life to sit and ponder that much to such a small detail. The rules are the rules and Yahoo created it that way and one person may have voted on your behalf but its because you were to picky to choose a not so perfect answer. BOO HOO! and by this question you have asked if you dont find a best answer someone on here will! Furthermore if you feel that that should be an option " no best answer" and that be the final say and no one gets 10pts then write a letter to yahoo!

Well, the people only vote to help you made a decision of which answer is the best.

i didnt know that the other people could have voted FOR you and I agree with you. I think that you should have a chance to vote yourself. It is your question, even if you dont choose a best answer by the expiration date! Like, maybe you were away or wanted to get the most possible answers.

The only vote that gives you final say on your own question is when you choose the best answer. If you vote for no best answer on your own question it's put to a vote by the other people on here.

Also, it was partially your mistake (no offence). If you though that there was no best answer to your question, you should have clicked no best answer on the bottom of all the answers instead of just ignoring it. That's the only reason that people are voting instead of you. Next time, just click no best answer on the bottom of the page.

If you can, try not to wait till the expiration date to choose if theres a best answer and if there isnt, click no best answer. that way, people wont vote instead of you.

If you want to change the rules in anyway you should just find out the administrator for yahoo questions email address and just email him or her. I say go for it! You have every right to. some people might think of it as wrong to change the rules, and that it's perfectly fine, but it really isn't to you so if you want to make a diference do it! if you don't like something you should tell people. a lot of people might acctually have the same problem ( i know i do) so you might acctually make a difference!

I do not mind if you did not choose me as the best answer (or chose no one or just pass by). It is your decision and you shouldn't be forsed to choose. I hope my answer helped you and good luck with changing the rules (if you do).

The only vote that gives you final say on your own question is for best answer (+3 points). If you vote for "no best answer" on your own question (zero points), it's put to a general vote, and it's likely someone will want the point for voting best answer. As far as changing the rules of the game, the rules is the rules. What if every asker wanted to change the rules? What you CAN do is vote for the least awful answer, give it one star and a thumbs down, and tell them how sorry their answer was. Sure, they get 10 points, but you get your point across, and 3 points for voting. And there won't be a general vote to upstage you.

I agree with you; but you are only allowed so many days, unless you prolong the expiration day. If you don't answer it, they vote on it for you. I guess they have to make room for more answers.
What I think is weird, is; a couple of times I voted a best answer for a couple of my questions, and they wrote back saying it was going to expire, and then someone else voted the best answer, when I had already voted.

All I can think of is to delete your question. Most who vote for a best answer are just voting to pick up points and seldom read past the first one or two answers. I have had the same problem. You can pick the least worse answer and just award less points, only give ten if the answer was great.

This q&a thing we got going on is on a point system. People are naturally competitive, so they anwser the questions to get points. Not really to give you expert advise. Some people are experts who are answering, but you will never know it. So if you don't pick a "Best answer" then it goes to an open forum where everybody votes on the best answer ,so the points can be awarded. if you don't pick them ... Everybody whos on this site will do it for you.

I guess if u wait too long then the question expires and there is no best answer... so other ppl get to vote cause it's like u passed up the chance regardless if u thought there was a best answer.... i've had that happen to me too...couldn't quite understand it all that much either....

It is your decision in the end if you want to choose a best answer or not. But if you don't like the idea of someone voting in a best answer, then you have to choose, i guess. I hate the idea of someone voting on my q's so i always choose a best answer.

no it is a matter of timing
if you vote in time you have the last word on voting and you can vote no best answer
if you wait to long the public does it for you
