5 burgers = $4
5 drinks = $2
$4 + $2 = $6 - $10 = $4 left to spend

Possibilities of how to spend the leftover $4:
5 burgers, 0 Drinks = $4
4 Burgers, 2 Drinks = $4
3 Burgers, 4 Drinks = $4
2 Burgers, 6 Drinks = $4
1 Burgers, 8 Drinks = $4
0 Burgers, 10 Drinks = $4

i just did addition to get the answers. there wasnt really a formula i used.

Edit: this formula might work: X($0.80) + Y($0.40) = $4.00

5 hamburgers multiplied by 80cents is $4.00. 5 drinks multiplied by 40 cents is $2.00. That is a total of $6.00. They have an extra $4.00 to buy whatever else they want.
