Because love changes. There are different kinds of love. Passionate love fades quickly, and a different kind takes over. It may not be as exciting, but it's much more meaningful. Sometimes over a long period of time couples get irritated with eachother, it's normal. When you first get together you spend so much time together, after 4 years maybe it's time to do some things independently. That way you will miss eachother and the quality of time you spend together will improve. 4 years is a significant investment of your time, try and work things out and stay together. Too many people give up and think the grass will be greener on the other side of the fence, but if you meet a new person, the same thing will eventually happen. It's just how it is. Good luck.

Alot of relationships burn out at this point because literally the honeymoon is over and the hard work of maintaining a relationship begins. The people you were at the beginning still exist but you have to mature the relationship so that it can move forward. Who are you now? Do you have anything in common? do you like spending time together? If not, then why not.

Sit down and talk all these things out, and if you want to continue together then set some short term and long term goals. Seek GLBT friendly counseling.

Good luck to you and yours.

In long term relationships you have to work at keeping things fun and interesting because as dumb as it sounds you do actually get bored of each other. Then you begin to just tolerate each other because being together is all you have known for so long know. It sounds like you both need to try and re-light that old flame you had or move on if the fire wood is wet so to speak.
Good Luck darling.

For the first part of relationships, it's more about being in love with the idea of being with someone... and then it comes down, after that... to the point of.. the person is either what you've always wanted, or they're not. Its a lot easier to fight about things, rather than to just address problems. ... good luck... i hope it turns around for you

I hear ya and for some reason that's the way it goes. When it gets to that point if you really want to save the relationship the only thing I can say is to seek couple's therapy.
