The dad's had custody for 4 months. The son feels obligated to care for dad & refuses to leave. No matter what the Mom does, the court still says the boy is old enough to say where he wants to live. They say that she is exaggerating the drug problem.
I saw the man, he looks like he's at death's door.

At his age the courts probably won't change custody. The mom is going to need a friend. If you can talk to the boy, try to tell him that you understand him wanting to care for his dad but this is something only a pro can handle and it's ok to ask for help. He also needs to talk to his Mom so he knows she's there for him and not angry about his decision.
If the father dies from an o.d. the boy is going to need the love & support of family and friends. He will probably blame himself so a therapist should be consulted.
Good luck

STAY OUT IT'S A FAMILY MATTER he is old enough to choose. Just be a friend and a good shoulder to lean on. YOU WON'T help matter by reporting the dad getting a kid that age removed shuffled around in foster care till he's 18 BACK OFF. No reason to get pi*sy missy even with a mom who loves him he CHOOSE the dad if you go meddling the state will get involved in some form it could result in him being in a temprory foster home. Great mom loves him an has a good home more kids need that but, he was gave a CHOICE he choose now let it be.

Help the young man understand the addiction and the problems associated with the addiction. Now would be a good time for a reality check, considering his environment!

Tell him the courts consider him an adult and as an adult he must make decisions that builds his future, not tear it down before he gets a chance to experience all the wonder and mystic in the world.

Inform him that the decision to participate in drugs takes away from anything he might want to be. Life is too short to be in a stupor and miss out on living.
