Yes.... it was the Republicans that caused the slaves to be freed in the first place. It was the Republicans that got the civil rights legislation passed. And the only way we would have slaves today is if the Democrats continue to keep minorities in bondage.
And further slaves don't make productive workers.... so for that reason alone the "evil greedy" Republicans would want them free.

At one point, Republicans were anti-slavery, but as time went on, the party became more and more under the control of the wealthy - which is not to say that the Democracts are not, but the Republicans of today are more likely to represent the interests of business owners than their employees.

The representatives of the wealthy, regardless of whether they call themselves Republicans or Democrats, all support the idea of wage slavery http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wage_slavery - it is the modern day equivalent of getting other people to do all the work, while those in power reap all the benefits.

As the New York Workingmen pledged in 1845:
To slavery in the abstract, slavery in the concrete, to slavery absolute, slavery feudal, and the salvery of wages; to slavery where it is, and where it is not; from the first Israelite who leaned his ear against the door, and was pierced with his master's awl to the last son of Adam who shall wear the badge of servitude; to Slavery we are utterly opposed under every phase and modification, and so with firm and solemn purpose will remain until our lives end.

This is no longer the slavery Republicans are opposed to - and there are precious few Democrats that oppose modern forms of slavery today, due to the fact that their election campaigns are also funded by those who reap the rewards of wage slavery.

Don't you realize we still have slavery today? Not in the form it use to be but still here. What about Africa where people are trapped or snatched from their homes or the children are SOLD by their parents to others for food money almost anything to try and improve their lot? What about men and women who come to this country as indentured servants. They owe money for coming to this country or to someone for something and they have to work this debt off, sometime to the tune of years and years before they can do anything else. They are virtual slaves and have to do exactly what they are told and as for any freedom----that a joke. 'what about mail order brides, unless they get lucky, they can end up as housebound slaves to their "husband". What about the "illegals", they pay a coyote to bring across the border,if no money, they are used in anyway the coyote sees fit or the person who buys this persons contract uses them any way he sees fit. Yes there is still slavery, we just don't know it when we see it.

We do have slaves. Those who do not work and who continue to accept the government handouts. And the criminal population are also slaves to the government working for pennies a day while incarcerated. And, I might add, these handouts were started by the DEMS. The Republicans are trying to teach all how to fish and not just give the fish to them. So, yes, GOP STILL ARE WORKING TO FREE THE SLAVES

IAM- just so you know, it was a Republican Administration that Freed the Slaves.

the Democrats back in the day didnt want ex-slaves to be able to vote.

Republicans wanted them to vote

So they compromised, hence the 3/5's compromise.

Why did african Americans ever vote democrat? its the great smokescreen/bamboozle of the last century.
Democrats bank on the fact Americans have short memories. just ask Democratic Senator(WV) Byrd about his white robes in his closet.

Slavery is alive and well today, In Islamic Countries

Leave it to a liberal to ask the most redundant question of the day, lol! But since you asked ... would the Democrats want them free? All that free labor for businesses big & small, and they wouldn't even have to pretend to like them any more.
