Why it's important to have a mix of different cultures joining toghther?

What have we learned as a whole when societys join toghether?
Culturual Fusion is important why? Can anyone give examples of different customs from different cultures that we combine?

Different cultures bring different things to the table such as religion, wisdom, art and crafts, food, and traditions. I think it helps in people being more acceptable of others. It seems that in cities where there a lot of different cultures represented the people seem more accepting of one another no matter how different they are. Of course I'm not saying every person is accepting just that there are more of the people that are accepting. Compared to a small town with a majority of one culture and a few minorities who would be less accepting of a new culture.
As for combining what comes to mind is a lot of holidays. Thanksgiving is a great example the Native Americans and the colonist coming together in a feast. Then there is Christmas which is Christian with pagan influences with the Christmas tree, yule log, and kissing under the mistletoe. Halloween also stems from many cultures.
