Since you like the hands on "mechanical"/technical side of things, find a community collage that offers an A.S. in Computer Technology. Different schools can call this different things, so you'll have to go and tell them what you want to do so, together, you can create a curriculum that will teach you the things you need in order to either get a good job or put in your own business after you're done.

Most computer related degrees are typically in 1) computer science or 2) electrical and computer engineering.

Computer science mainly deals with the programming aspect of it. If you are really interested in building (whether computer or other electronics devices), perhaps electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering would be more appropriate for you.

One aspect of engineering would be designing/modeling and/or actually working with the hardware.
