Just substitute the values in the expression
(x-y)^2 = (5-(-1))^2 = (5+1)^2 = 6^2 = 36

=(5-(-1))2
=(5+1)2

well, you need to substitute the given..

(x - y)2

so x = 5, y = -1....

(5 - (-1))2

(5+1)2 = 12

but if you mean by 2 in (x-y)2, is an exponent, so the answer is 6^2 = 36...

I am assuming you mean (x-y)^2
Plug in: (5--1)^2
=(5+1)^2
=(6)^2
=6 x 6
