Michael Jackson began his show business career as a reasonably presentable Black boy who sang with this brothers in the Jackson Five band. At some point, he decided to try and turn himself White with chemicals, cosmetic surgeries and various magic potions. He was probably aiming for Davy Jones. But he missed and became a Japanese lady instead.

Great question. as a former Michael Jackson fan, I would have to say it started sometime during the summer of 1989. However, the complete transformation has taken on different phases in the evolutionary cycle. Overall, I would say it has taken about 12 years, and a whole heck of a lot of operations.
