y = mx + b
First, consider the point (2,5) on the line.
Plug in x=2, y=5, m=2, to get b.
y = mx + b
5 = 2*2 + b
5 = 4 + b
b = 1
Now, consider the point (0,y) on the line.
Plug in x=0, m=2, b=1 to get y.
y = mx + b
y = 2x + 1 <-- by the way, this is the equation of the line
y = 2*0 + 1
y = 0 + 1
y = 1
By the way, you technically don't even have to do the last half of that, because b IS the y-intercept. In other words, the point (0,b) is always on a line, by defintion. :) So, the fact that b is 1 will already tell you that y=1 when x=0.

Remember the slope formula y = mx+b where:
y = the y value
x = the x value
m = the slope
b = the y intercept. (where the line crosses the y-axis)
So lets plug in what we know using the point (2,5)
5 = 2(2)+b.....now rearrange the equation to solve for b.
b = 1
Now lets look at the slope formula with just m and b:
y = 2x + 1.....now you can use this equation to find any point on the line.
Just replace with whatever values you know to solve for the other. Such as, since you know what x is you can solve for y.
y = 2(0) + 1
y = 1
So the point on the line is (0,1).
Hope that helps. :)

Slope = change in y over change in x. These are found by subtracting the first numbers from the second.
The change in x is 2-0 or 2. So the change in y must be 4, so you can have 4/2 which reduces to 2. So 5 - y = 4. That means y = 1.

Since m= the slope then the slope is 2. I use the equation "y=mx+b" for my linear equations. So you plug the numbers in from the cordinates that were given. It turns out to be 5=2(2)+b. Then u solve for b. You get b=1.the you use the second set od corndinates then solve for y. y=2(5)+1. Therfore y=11

p = style of pennies n = style of nickels We set up a equipment of equations. the 1st equation will entire the style of money: p + n = 20 the 2d equation will relate the values of the money: a million * p + 5 * n = 40 8 p + 5n = 40 8 Our purpose is to now isolate a variable. we are able to definitely subtract the 1st equation from the 2d equation to accomplish that: p + 5n - (p + n) = 40 8 - 20 p + 5n - p - n = 28 0p + 4n = 28 4n = 28 n = 28/4 n = 7 There are 7 nickels p + 7 = 20 p = 13 There are 13 pennies
