I asked an african american guy why they called themselves "the N word" but got mad when others did ...

He told me he only got mad when white people called them that.But that It would be okay if I did because according to him "I'm practically black". I'm mexican american. I don't get the whole issue.

The N word is not an African thing...it's mostly used by Americans.
I have heard white folks calling each other 'White Trash'; they don't get mad either. Wonder what would happen if a Black man calls a white man 'White Trash'?

Then again, I have heard white youngsters calling each other N*****..
culturally, we have come a long way. It's not uncommon for black, white and Hispanic youths to hang out together and call each other N*****.
Now that's cool.

mexican american is not black but still white on the race card. you are not black and you better not tried that again unless you would be six feet below ground. it is not okay for mexicans or any other people to use the n word but only blacks.

its like a homophone when a black person say it the term is used as someone saying you my dogg my peeps a home boy when a white person says it the term is used as an insult to the persons race as used in slavery days i myself personally do not use the term at all because i have no need for it and i dont want my children expressing themselves that way.

I've worked with a few african americans.
I don't think they resent being called ******.
That's what they are , what they resent is- being called the slang word- ******.
I don't blame them, I would resent it too.
