It sounds like an overheating problem, for sure. I would re-check the fan/heatsink as it might not be properly seated. They can be deceiving. You DID remember to use thermal paste, right? If that is not the source of the problem, I would then suspect the power supply or motherboard. A single overheating component here could also shut the system down. Re-check all of your connections, make sure your RAM and any other plug-in boards are well seated and your power supply is adequate to run all your hardware.

This same problem occurred on my last build, the computer I'm on now. It's a P4 3.0 and had the exact same symptoms. The problem was an improperly seated heatsink. It must have shifted when I tightened down the fan shroud. If this turns out to be the same with your rig, don't forget to clean off and re-apply the paste before installing it again.

Sounds like possible corrupted software or an overheating problem. Start in safe mode and uninstall Norton.Security. Let the computer run for awhile in safe mode - if it still shuts down then you have an overheating problem (check the fan on the power supply plus you may need another exhaust fan - I always drop in an extra). If it does not shut down, restart it and see what happens. If it runs fine then the culprit is Norton security.

Your PC could be running hot. Find a way to decrease the heat in your system (probably by adding a fan).
