Earned income credit means you didn't make much money last year, so you can get a tax break this year, even if you did make decent money.

Earned income credit is mostly used for single parents who are the head of the household and doesn't make alot of money. You will get a bit more money in your tax returns under these circumstances. But, only one parent can claim the child/children and that would be the one who has guardianship over them.

This year if you make up to approximately $34,000 you can qualify for the earned income credit with one or more children. If you're single and are between the age of 25 and 65 and your earnings are no more that $11,000, you may qualify for the earned income credit which varies in the amount you're able to receive depending on the amount of your earnings...........

Earned income credit is not just for single parents married people with children can claim it too. The IRS base it off of your income and how many kids you have. When I did our taxes last year I called the IRS # on the back of the tax workbook and they figured my EIC for me. SO if you dont want the headache of doing it yourself you can call the # on the back of the workbook and they will tell you if you qualify and how much it is.

Go to the irs.gov website.
Type in EIC in the search section.

There are certain rules that apply to qualify for this credit. It is a tax credit that you must meet in all qualifying sections.
