Extending the hours from 8 am and 5 pm, with two day weekends off, would be sufficient -- with two extra hours of instruction a day there would be enough time to teach all of the subjects that we're behind other countries in, but it will also give kids tons more homework and less time to do it in, and kids catch up on homework on the weekends. They need time to relax too.

They should not be expected to be in school until 9 am or later. (So many students are not getting enough sleep and it affects the way they function) They should also be released no later then 2 pm. This way the older kids can work or do what ever it is they want after school and parents aren't so rushed in the evening to squeeze in the sports/ballet classes, homework, and quality time. They should however be required to attend year round!!

School is already integrated with the current time standards. Students get out at 2:10 (in high school, where I live) and from there go to jobs, sports, outside activities, etc. It’s important for them to have lives separate from school to develop in ways other than educationally. Students would burn out in a matter of days with a 6 days a week, ten hour a day school schedule.

Why should kids have to be worked harder than most adults?
If you think that school kids are crazed as is, just wait until we start passing laws to extend the time they spend locked up in school each day. That's a horrible idea.

they are both screwed chioces:
If i really had to choose i would say the 8-6 because it will allow for all classes to have block scheduling, i know they will have a break and lunch it might even slow the traffic around busy intersections preventing accidents
