I can give u finance role info. I've a succcessful career as I did ACA (chartered accountant) and then joined investment banking.
If u are in the financial center like london then I'll say the first step is to get some experience in financial roles (if u can't get full time job then temping - small pay, work experience - work for free for firms for a month then u can offer ur learned skills to next employer). Recrutment agencies deal in all these.
U'll first start in accounts or finance administration role where initially u'll feel it's not adding value. But ur next employer will check first that u've strong interest in this area and u have proved it, secondly that u have experience in working in an professional environment.
Also once entered then go for a qualification in finance like ACCA (from home) or ACA.
This is the hard way assuming that u r finding hard to get a proper job.
If u have a grad degree then try getting into the graduate programs of big firms, check doctorjobs.co.uk; prospects.ac.uk for various grad programs. These programs are highly valued.

I've been in personnel in the Fed gov for almost 30 years. At age 20, you can't really expect to find a "career" unless you are really passionate about something and want to follow it. Joining the military is one option. Most long-term, high-income work requires some time being stuck in an office all day. Other options require some sort of skills: vet assistant; landscaping, child care, teaching, park ranger. Go out and look at monsters.com or the Fed jobs website USAJobs.gov and see what's out there that you might want to go for. Again, most require some sort of skill set or advanced education if you want to avoid office work.

Jobs for life don't exist any more and starting up your own business is usually very risky. You need to work harder on yourself than you do on your job. The best career is network marketing / multi level marketing. Choose a company you are comfortable with and if you are not sure check it out with the DSA (Direct selling association) and / or trading standards. As it could be just a pyramid scheme or money game that just sounds like a network marketing company.

It's very personal and it depends on how you define a good career. You are still young. First, set a goal for what? do you want in life. Plan what you will do to reach your goal.

I'm 41 now, work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless. I set my target as low as to make 1 dollar/page/day. Istrive to create a new page for my websites everyday but I have all the freedom I need and making money 24/7 on the internet with Google Adsense and some affiliate programs. The only thing that tie me down is 'how much income I want or need'. Because the more websites and traffic I have will determine how much income I can much.

Anyone who can create websites or blogs to provide lots of good information can make money from Google Adsense. Blogger.com and Google pages lets you create blogs for free and allows you to make money too.

You can make money by joining me or Google as a publisher and publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money.

Why sign up with me? Because we can link to each other to get more traffic and income. I'll working on this website
http://tashi.web.services.googlepages.com soon after I'm done with my client's website.

This woman is old and jobless and I can see that she's trying her best. I'll help her a little when I'm done with my current project next week. Please check this Hot Alert if you don't want to burn your wallet: Latest Telecommunication scam http://lost-newbie.blogspot.com/

Hi, you may be good at doing the same as I do, that is if you are also open to a business opportunity as I am looking for ambitious people like yourself. You have nothing to lose by looking at this and you can email me at rpelley5@yahoo.com if you are interested. This could be a change for you too.

Hi, I would like to invite you to visit my 360 page and read my blog. After you have done that in the blogroll click on the one that says Arbonne International. There are links on the right hand side of the new page that will open and you can listen about what the company has to offer. If you have any questions please just send my an e-mail and I will get back with you. Good luck to you. Terri T.

Try www.tickle.com, under personality/career assessments. It will definately help you out. I was a construction worker when I did the assessment, and it said I should be working with people. Now I am an employment counselor helping people find out what they want to be when they grow up, and I find this site extremely useful. Good luck!

A great first step would be to take some aptitude tests. I took mine at the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation in New York. You may be surprised at your strengths and weaknesses.
