My student loans from private university were equivalent to buying two new Corvettes, and wrecking them both on the way home w/o insturance. Took me ten years to pay that off.

Then the oil business went to hell, and I got caught growing marijuana indoors; got a 10 yr federal sentence.

I now owe $90,000 to my aging parents from their life savings. With interest over ten years, I owe them more like $150,000.

I paid off $12,800 in student loans. I had a $11,000 unsecured loan which was discharged in bankruptcy. Oh, my $467,000 mortgage - I technically owed that much.

Should we get technical and not assume that $1 in Baltimore equals $1 in Orange County, California - the $467,000 mortgage secured a 2800 sq. ft. 4 BR Colonial. The $702,000 mortgage doesn't even secure a 3 BR Rancher in Orange County.

I had a $34,000 credit card balance before I paid it off with a home equity loan. I reduced the credit limit to $3,500 after that happened.
