GET RID OF THEIR FOOD SOURCE!!!
These annoying birds are doing your house a great service! They are eating the insects that have infested your home!
So call an exterminator and figure out what type of insect problem that you have and get rid of it quickly. Exterminators are not that expensive. Especially if you measure the cost against the damage some insects can do!

You should appreciate the woodpecker for getting rid of bugs... just kidding.
Have you tried setting up a bird-house in your yard? They might stop pecking your trim if they are not hungry.

if it is pecking the trim you probably have termites and should take care of it .. the only reason a woodpeck will peck is if there are bugs present

Like most said you have a food source that needs to be eliminated. Kill the bugs better yet call exterminator. After food is gone put up a fake owl or other bird of prey it will run them off

You need to place something shinny and move-able such as a weather vane up there for just a couple of days
