My business is looking into getting a T1 line. We contacted a company and they are quoting us a speed of 1.5 Mbps for 400$ a month. DSL is 3.0 Mbps per month and it is 40$ a month. I have always been told a t1 is better, but it seems like it would be slower for much more money. Am I missing something

A T1 is a dedicated point-to-point connection which is specifically and solely for the use of your company. You will get a dedicated 1.5 Mbps.

DSL is a shared ATM-based service and the standard contention on DSL lines is 50:1 (or often 20:1 for business DSL)
This means that you and 49 (or 19) other people are sharing a connection node and therefore the price (and service) are reduced.

Read up before you decide. DSL is basically a fast phone line.

T1 vs. DSL

Is a T1 faster than DSL? We are asked this question quite often but this is not a yes or no question. A T1 is a business-grade circuit that delivers 1.544Mbps for both download and upload. A typical DSL circuit can provide speeds up to 7Mbps for downloads, if you are close enough to a Central Office and only deliver up to 1Mbps for upload. There are also different types of DSL such as ADSL, RADSL, SDSL, VDSL, IDSL, HDSL and others, all with their own pro's and con's for speed, reliability and cost. A T1 is 1.544Mbps both up and down, no matter your distance from a Central Office. Your T1 will also see a much faster response time when there is trouble on the line, where DSL is typically a residential-grade service that will see a 24-hour to 48-hour response when it goes down.

Honestly, for a business, go with the T1. You may also jump up to a T3 if are looking for a faster speed yet. For your home, go with DSL. For your business, T1 or faster.

T1 bundles several phone lines together to provide downstream access speeds of 1.54 Mbps per customer! You will pay at least twice as much every month for a T1 line as it would for DSL. Cost for installation of T1 is more expensive than DSL. DSL uses standard telephone lines, and T1 requires special lines. So for economical purposes the DSL is the best way to go. I provided a link to verizon to give you a idea of price. Good luck.

A t1 isn't necessarilly extra effective, it in basic terms relies upon on your needs. A t1 is breaks down into 24 channels. each and each channel can the two be used for a telephone line or sixty 4 Kbps of cyber web. A employer could have 8 telephone lines and 1024 Kbps of cyber web (sixteen X sixty 4 Kbps) over a t1 for $450. it is way less high priced than buying 8 telephone lines + DSL/cable cyber web making it extra effective for them. in case you utilize the total t1 for cyber web you will get a million.544 Mbps of bandwidth. you may get extra effective than that with DSL or cable cyber web and it truly is extra decrease priced making it a miles better selection for homestead purchasers. Your upload value is slower with DSL and cable, yet remains plenty for a house consumer. A t3 is 40 5 Mbps of bandwidth and fees countless thousand money a month. This makes the value impratical for a house consumer, to no longer point out you may by no potential get on the brink of utilising that plenty bandwidth. a great form of folk think of that t1's are in basic terms extra effective, because of the fact back while dial-up develop into the only concern obtainable for homestead purchasers a t1 blew that away. They heard a pair of t1 and nonetheless think of that it truly is a great product, while that isn't be the case right this moment.

A DSL connection has a low price and is less reliable than a T1
connection. A T1 is much more expensive than a DSL connection
but is also much more reliable.

So are you looking for reliability or price? Reliability becomes critical
when customers or employees depend on your connection for
immediate responses.

If your customers use your connection to access your databases
or your server or the Internet then reliability of your connection is
critical. If your employees depend on your connections because you
host the e-mail server in house or host web servers, your connections
is considered critical.

A critical connection can be viewed much like a life line, without
which your business would be negatively impacted. Your monthly
savings of having a sub-par connections will not make up for the
loss in productivity of your employees or loss of customers when
your DSL connections gets bogged down or cut off.

$400? That is a rip off. DSL and T1 are basically the same. T1 is a bit faster, but still not worth $400!

Most of the previous responses contain your answers. One thing you need to look at is what does your business want to do with its T1 or DSL line?

If you want to host something (such as a web site) on your own servers, the upload speed becomes increasingly important. This is also true for large file transfers.

Also, make sure your ISP will allow hosting on whatever connection you get (usually allowed with business service; usually not allowed with residential service). If they don't allow it, they will generally enforce that prohibition by port blocking, service blocking, and assorted other means.

-Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP)

T1 = A dedicated digital communication link provided by a telephone company that offers 1.544 Mbps of bandwidth, commonly used for carrying traffic to and from private business networks and Internet service providers.

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) = A data communications technology that uses either DMT or CAP to transmit information over the copper wires that make up the local loop. Standard rate DSL can provide 50 times the bandwidth of a 33.6 kbps modem.
