I realize that we (and I don't mean just the U.S.) are definitely between a rock and a hard place in Iraq, but I firmly believe that N. Korea is a ticking time bomb. So, what's going to keep them from starting WW 4 (or 3, depening on your pov)?

I think it's foolish to ignore the problem. Kim Jong Il is a dangerous person without a doubt. I heard someone (on the news) say letting him have nukes is like giving a young child a book of matches, or something to that effect. I've also heard some say we should cut off all aid to the country. On one hand I agree, but on the other I would hate to know that the average N. Korean citzen would suffer even more than they do now. And over all, I think this is a very scary problem.

I don't know of anything that can stop North Korea from sending nuclear bombs off, hopefully our government has some useful information on some leverage somewhere. The Russians, Germans, French, etc are too busy making money selling technology and weapons to rogue countries to help, and it would be against their financial interests to help.

I love the above responce, "gee lets disarm, and hope they will too, gosh lets not be hypocritical, lets be helpless instead."

Oh God...I don't have the slightest clue.
On one hand, I feel like it's hypocritical to hold on to our own stacks of arms if we're serious about nuclear non-proliferation...and I'm also for the free sharing of information. We can't be hoarders.
But North Korea with nukes is bad no matter how you slice it.
And we can't attack them.

Basically, it's all up to China. Their support is the only thing that's propping up Kim Jong-il's regime. If you convince China to stop sending aid, the government will collapse on it's own.
But how do you get China to stop aiding NK? And would the chaos and rebellion that would follow Kim's collapse be much better than life there now?

We really should have done something about this earlier.

Clarification: I'm not suggesting we just disarm. I'm saying that the primary reason most countries want nukes is because they have to defend themselves from people like us who already have them. At the very least, we should stop researching and testing new nukes, especially "tactical nukes" that are actually going to see combat.

Totally cut the country off from anyone else for any reason. No procucts in and absolutely nothing out. The projections from this proposal of strategy viewed a max loss of 3,000 american troops. The least so far.

We sure are in a terrible predicament, the ones who want to negotiate. the ones who say ignore it, it will go away. etc... I could go on and on. the big problem dates back to Clinton taking illegal money from China for his campaign. funds. Or When Gore was in the bathroom and they made a decision he didn't know about. ( except all negotiations stopped when he left the room). Why can't they suffer the consequences of selling nuclear secrets to China.

All the other countries should just leave North Korea alone until they think that North Korea will launch the nukes.
