I just purchased this neat old wooden iron board, it has most of the advertising label still on the wood, but it's flaky - what can I do to preserve the label without compromising the value of the antique?

Pretty much anything you do to it makes it no longer original. I would put a thin layer of clear varnish over it, myself. But I wouldn't be worrying about it's value much, since I don't re-sell.
