Before you go to the mountain, ask yourself this: do you plan on working hard to improve your snowboarding skills? If the answer is no, that you are just heading up to the mountain one day to have fun, then I'd suggest renting skis. For a beginner who plans on taking a fun vacation to the resort once a year, it will be easiest for you to take a quick ski lesson, and you'll learn to get down the mountain without injury.
However, if you feel confident that you will be able to dedicate some time to become a good snowboarder, then go for it, but be prepared to end up bruised, cold, and wet. It won't be much fun, and I would be one of the people yelling at you for sitting in the middle of the slope if you get tired or fall down or just want to rest. That's my best advice; if you are going up to the mountain to have fun for a day, try skiing. If you honestly think you want to learn to snowboard and work hard at it, then try snowboarding. I am one of the few younger generation skiers and trust me, snowboarding isn't very cool when you end up on your butt all the time.

Prepare yourself for some pain followed be the most enjoyable experience on earth. The first day is always painful because when you wreck on a board the first things to hit the ground are always either your knees and hands or your butt. I would recommend taking a lesson. Once you learn how to turn you will have a lot of fun. I would also recommend wearing a helmet because it is hard to have fun if you bump your brain.

Snowboarding is fairly hard at first, but not nearly as hard as skating. It is one of my favorite things to do. You will fall at first but it isnt that bad cause you are on snow and you have a big coat.

It's easy and dangerous as well.
To get you started I would recommend to watch the snowboarding flash tutorial. I hope you like it.

Snowboarding is hard at the beginning, and then really easy to accelerate your skill later...or so I'm told.
But with your skateboard experience, it'll probably be easier for you.

You'll pick it up fast. You're already used to riding one foot forward, so all you need to do is get used to turning without wheels. I find that the piece of advice that helps everyone is when you turn, for exampe toe side, you push your back foot in the opposite direction you are turning. THis will cause you to make the board slide on it's edge, turning you in the desired direction.

It's easy. The best way to learn is just go to the top of the mountain and work your way down you will look stupid wrecking but it's the only way you will get it.
