Plant cells have a giant rectangular vacuole that takes up most of their space and holds mostly water. It helps the cell retain its shape as well as store things.

Animal cells make small vacuoles (vesicles) upon taking in some food or chemical particle. The golgi body packs things in vacuoles from the endoplasmic reticula. Small one celled creatures also have contractile vacuoles, small spherical-like vacuoles that are used to send wastes back out of the cell.
