Depends on the caliber. Amount of powder and type to propel it and the type and weight of bullet.
Even slightly depends on the barrel length. The same bullet will travel higher/farther out of a six inch barrel than a two inch barrel since it is given more force for a longer length.

if you mean shot from the ground, at say an average altitude of 4000 feet, I dont think any hand gun could make it past the "atmosphere" which is like 30,000 feet , you would need a self propelled projectile to make it that far or beyond. a little .22 can shoot over a mile horizontilly, but not that far straight up. A 7mm. magnum, which is pretty fast, and powerfull, might make it a mile or two, Mount Everest is over 9 miles high, I dont think anything except some sort of rocket could make it higher.

Depends on the power of the hand gun and what caliber. Regardless, it could probably go several hundred feet.
