The link below is an overview of the requirements for the city of Nanaimo. In general they are based on CSA requirements and/or WETT (Wood Energy Technical Training ... see link).

But keep in mind there are various types of clearances (stove to combustible, flue to combustible, stove hearth requirements, etc.). Also there may be acceptable ways to decrease distances with, for example, a stove or wall mounted heat shield.

In all cases an inspection will be required (city, township) and your insurance company will need to approve ... at risk of invalidating insurance. Even an approved installation may increase insurance.

ya might wanna check w/ your local building insp. for code, and then check w/ your insurance co. and see what thier min. is and how a wood stove will affect your policy. in some instances a wood stove is enough to cancel a home owners policy.
