Three men, A, B, and C, were traveling with their wives, a, b, and c. They came to a river which they had to cross. Thre was just one boat and only two could cross at tone time. A crosses the river with his wife a, drops her off and returns to the first shore. Then B and A go together and A crosses the river while B returns. B then picks up b, and b returns the boat, leaving B across the river. b then takes c, and c returns the boat, leaving b across the river. This means that A, a, B, and b have all crossed the river, and that c is in the boat alone, returning to pick up her husband C. They both take the trip across the water, and the three couples can celebrate happily ever after.
