There are lots of things you can do on "the internet," one thing is world wide web(page) browsing. This is basically a scripted way of downloading an outline of something, and all the parts, then re-assembling them on your screen for you to view.

Another thing you can also do is chat (instant message, "IM") and send email on "the internet." Email uses a protocol (way of computers to talk to each other) called SMTP, whereas the world wide web ("webpages") use something called HTTP.

They are not one and the same.

The www just happens to be the most popular use of the internet and very visual. I hope this answers your question.

The internet is millions of computers connected. 85% of the internet is e-mail.

The world wide web is a portion of the internet that has text, pictures and sound to share information. It uses Hyper Text Mark Up Language.
