Algebra is simply a tool that can help you use equations to describe real life situations. Equations are simply mathematical expressions to describe a procedure. For example, the area or perimeter formulas, they tell you what to do with the sides to find the answers. So, it is a little bit strange, but it is sure a tool that can help you understand real life situations.

It is the solution of mathematical equations by substituting letters for unknown numerical values. It is then usually possible to transpose the equation so that the numbers are at one side of the equation and the answer, eg 'x' is at the other side so that then x acquires a numerical value equal to the fraction at the other side of the equation.
