If it's so easy, why don't you answer it yourself?

Answer 1: use the Pythagorian theorum, you have 2 legs of a right triangle and want to find the hypotonuse: 8^2 + 6^2 = x^2 (3-4-5 right triangle)

Answer 2: He is nowhere near the north pole, is he? If he starts 4 miles south of the north pole going 8 miles in the north direction will put him 4*pi miles east of his starting point, so the answer would be 4*pi - 6.

(similar to trick question: man walks 1 mile south, 1 mile east, one mile north, and ends up at his starting point. He sees a bear, what color is it? Answer: white, because he is at the north pole)

He has walked 14 miles total, but as a straight line, his distance is 10 miles from his starting point.

If it's an "easy" question, then why don't you just answer it yourself?

I"ll give you a hint, but no more than that.

Get a piece of paper.

Get a pencil.

Sit down.

Look at the question.

Reach deep dopwn inside yourself and......think.

Draw a vertical line and label it "8 miles"....without lifting your pencil...

Draw a horizontal line and label it "6 miles".

Now, connect the loose ends witha line.

Now use the Pythagorean Theorem to find that distance.

c^2 = 76
c = 8.718 mi
