depending on what it's made of
if it's straw mositure and heat (field hat)
if it's board by cupping and bending (cap)
if it a felt hat breaking the bend (fadora)

hang it on a doorknob after you wash it with a towel or something to catch the dripping water then take a rubberband and while holding the sides of the bill of the hat slip a rubber band over the sides to hold the bill in place remove it when its dry you hat is clean and perfectly shaped

Sit on it! That'll shape it 4 sure! Okay, SERIOUSLY though, you boil some water in a pan and steam it in the shape that you want.
