Bush was slow, and killed thousands.

I am surprised the FEMA didn't really help either.
Does Bush think just some one town full of people is not important enough to worry about?

Us uneducated Republicans that were there know a lot more than you probably think. You see, this isn't about who has the most power. If it was, the President would decide what to do for every state, city, district, principality and neighborhood. That's not how it works. If you spend some time reading the constitution and studying political science you'll see that the way government functions in America is confined to predetermined precedents and has an order.

The President does not just jump in to a state/region issue and take over without being asked. That is the LAW. FEMA does not just jump in a take over without being asked. That is the LAW. State leaders can proactively ask for federal assistance if they think that the coming disaster will be too much for their state agencies to handle, BUT THEY HAVE TO ASK. People who just blame Bush for the SNAFU in New Orleans don't understand what the obligation of a mayor or governer are.

The truth is Mayor Nagin and Governer Blanco should be ashamed of themselves for being such poor leaders. They are both incompetant, and the fact that Nagin got re-elected tells me that New Orleanians weren't really paying attention to who was doing what. Nagin told the folks who chose to stay that they could take shelter and get food and water at the stadium ... where there was no food and water. Nagin waited until it was too late to issue an evacuation order. Nagin failed to operationalize the entire fleet of school buses and city buses to transport people out of the area. Both Nagin and Blanco chose to ignore the advice of experts who had just completed an exercise (mathematical) of a major hurricane strike in the Gulf coast and warned that Katrina would nearly destroy the city. The state of Louisianna (governer Blanco) chose to build and maintain levies that could only withstand a category-3 hurricane (which some reports say Katrina was).

Bush and FEMA had to come in and make up for the lack of planning and leadership demonstrated by the proper disaster authorities in Louisianna, and consequently take the heat for the numerous failures left to overcome.

Did you know that every state has its own Emergency Management Agency? Did you know that it is the state agency's job to handle initial disaster relief and communicate any additional needs and assitance requests to FEMA? Did this happen during Katrina? No. Do you even know who the LEMA (Louisianna Emergency Management Agency) director is? I bet you don't, because apparently they don't know who that person is either.

So don't come at the whole of Republicans (who on average are more educated, more highly employed, and more financially stable) with this uninformed jab and expect that we'll back down and cower. When you get all your information from CNN and your best notions of reason, you fall short because you just aren't that informed.

Because NO is a city of uneducated democrats.... J/K

It was all of their responsibility. Bush, Mayor Nagin (sp?), and the LA Governor were all responsible because each entity (fed, state, city) were responsible for different things.

What about the citizens responsbility to get themselves out? If it were my family and I knew a major hurricane was coming (they knew it for days prior to landfall), I'd do whatever it took to make sure my family wasn't stranded.

Republicans are only part of the problem. Politicians' selfishness and our inefficient government are the real problem.

Why didn't the citizens of New Orleans LEAVE? They had 3 days notice. The state and local government should of gotten the old, disabled and hospitalized people out, but everyone else, they should of left!
We are Pro Life,I got me and mine out of harms way!

Living in a hurricane prone state, I knolw that it is my responsibility to evacuate when a hurricane threatens. I am also aware that if I evacuate "in place" I am supposed to have enough of everything I need to survive on my own for 2 weeks. People are supposed to be responsible for themselves. Incompetent local government is responsible for what happened in NO because they did not have a plan.

Gee (rolls eyes)
Presidents don't usually help citizens escape hurricane ravaged cities. That's a job for state government.
Oh, and, just what did he say about oil while 'thousands' died?
Lololol!!! Little kids!

He completely puts all his energy into Iraq. Haven't you noticed? The President's job is foreign affairs.
