If trying to determine the due date of a baby, the earlier ultrasounds are much better than the later ones (around 20 weeks and after). The reason for this is that early embryos generally grow at the same rate and by 20th week, babies can differ greatly in size because of nutrition and genetics etc.

When you're talking about due dates and progress, the eariler ultrasounds are much more accurate. The later in pregnancy, the less accurate they become. the 16-20 week ultrasound measures the baby's size and growth, but after that, any ultrasounds approximating the weight at birth, can be off by as much as a pound or more.

That is when they are the most accurate, after 20 weeks they diminish..if you are talking about your due date and when you actually conceived. They always can be off by a few day though, all babies develop at different rate some are bigger than others etc. I had 5 ultrasound with my 1st child early middle and late pregnancy and they all gave me different due dates...good luck finding out who it was though....

The earlier the better - I am diabetic so they need to measure early on to have an accurate edd (since diabetic babies can be large). My 2 were measured at 6-8 wks.

There is also a certain amount of inaccuracy due to the skill of the ultrasonographer. For this reason they take 3 measurements and average them.

10 days distinction isn't a huge distinction. The physician is somewhat in basic terms attempting to get a wager to make optimistic the child is becoming at a good value and save you and the child healthful. Congrats!!
