A 14 year old is (or should be) perfectly capable of cutting up his own food.
Perhaps cutting up the boy's food is not the whole problem - however, it could indicate a bigger problem - maybe the father does not want his son to grow up, maybe he is trying to keep him dependant. I would hope that this is not the case.
When I was in high school in the 1970's in England, the school leaving age was 15. At 15 years old I left school and got a full-time job, still lived at home, but paid my mother and father half my weekly pay-check every week. I was an adult at that age, and believe me I was certainly capable of cutting up my own dinner.

If he's your only or youngest son, that it's actually quite common. All you have to do is explain to your husband "he's 14, maybe we should try to see if he can cut his own food. If he gets hurt (using a knife) he'll learn a lesson of not to do it again." I'm a daycare teacher and I've had similar problems in my own household. My parents still cut up my 12 yr. old brother's food. Although, he has shown them he can do it. Some parents don't want their kids to grow up and that's a sign to them that they are growing up. Just explain to your husband, "he has to grow up sooner or later. He can't be a baby all his life."

there's an expression in my family that comes to mind although its used normally for the woman, its " the embilacal cord was cut a looong time ago". his son isnt 3 anymore and can use a knife all by his big boy self! your husband has a few issues and they seriously need to be addressed.

Now, that's too much already. Food is a basic need it shouldn't be used for punishment or anything like that.

that is ridculous and you need to tell him to stop. your son is no longer a child and its time for your husband to get over it.
