In my personal opinion, you can't go wrong with British humour. Check out Monty Python, Fierce Creatures, A Fish Called Wanda, and the original Pink Panthers. (NOT the Pink Panthers with Steve Martin...blech) I've always found British humour to be in a class of its own - and usually far above most other types. Incidentally, you can also rent episodes of Monty Python's Flying Circus, Mr. Bean, and Blackadder, all of which are simply hilarious.

--Animal House-if you haven't seen it, you must. this one is nonnegotiable.

--Dumb and Dumber--if you have to watch a stupid guy comedy, this one is my favorite

--Young Frankenstein--Call Me Frankenstein!

--Bringing Up Baby--Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant--very funny if you like screwball comedies. if not, it can get to be irritating pretty quickly. It's about a screwy heiress who owns a cheetah (i think it's a cheetah) and decides shes going to mary an egghead who's not quite prepared for the onslaught she unleashes on him.

--Arsenic and Old Lace--another screwball comedy with Cary Grant. His two very sweet little old aunts are poisoning lonely batchelors and burying them in the basement. HIs uncle thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt. In one night, he's got to keep them from killing someone else, keep the police from finding out, keep the bad guys from killing them all, and get his girl in the process.

--Noises Off--Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve, and Marilu Henner are the main characters in this one. The idea is really simple. They are the cast and crew trying to put on a play. The first act is played through three times: first from the front of the stage during rehearsal, second behind stage during a later production, and third back in front of the stage. It sounds boring, but everyone is become madder and madder at each other as the production goes on. The madder they get, the funnier it gets seeing the mess they make of the play.
