a few of these answers are good, a few of them are just wrong.

A good or bad lawyer does not depend on winning or losing.

There are a multitude of things that can make a lawyer bad, but what I would say is the most important thing from a client standpoint is a lack of communication. Whether it's unreturned phone calls, emails, or just not keeping clients informed, it's the number one grievance complaint taken by most bar associations.
