All you can do is to ride like you are invisible.
We have had several programs, in the US, aimed at increasing auto drivers' awareness of motorcyclists and their rights. You'd never know it by the way they drive.

I think most car drivers think that if you ride a motorcycle you're nuts already. So we have to get around that first.

Remember people in cars and trucks are not looking for motorcycles. They are looking to avoid collisions with other cars and trucks. So ride like you are invisible because we are. You can install flashing brake lights and a headlight modulator to get the attention of people in cars, but if they are in a hurry, you are still invisible.

Respect the laws of the area you are riding in. If a cager (car driver) sees you going 90mph in a 45mph zone, all respect goes out the window. If you are weaving though traffic at dangerously high speeds and pulling stupid stunts, again, all respect gone.

And don't forget respect is a two way street. To get respect one must show respect to others. Let that car go before you, even if you clearly have the right of way(that's a fight a motorcyclist can't win). A friendly smile and wave in most cases will disarm a bad situation before it gets worse, and may just be returned in the friendly manner intended.

Ride Safe

You cant make anyone respect each other nor can you even begin too control someone Else's, attitude on the road.sadly enough most people don't even see you over half the time.and lets face it bikes were not made to joust with cars.
the best way is to watch everyone on the road, ride with respect and show people by good example, after 35 plus years and over 500,000 miles of riding I can tell you that any argument on the road is one too many, most people are scared of bikers they think they are all like the ones in the movies.driving defensively is the only way to go.
over the years on my travels if somebody on the road is bothering me I just get off for awhile read something buy gas or get something too eat then go back on the road .goodluck and have fun

Ride with a rifle strapped to your back. Cars stay clear of you then.
