Number of people who has set to "Watch" the auction. EBay automatically send them email about the biddings.
What it means to you is that these people are likely to be interested in the item for sale. They are keeping an close watch on the bidding and waiting to jump in at the appropriate time.
For the seller, the more people "Watching" the better.

are people that put you item on their "watch" list so they can check back at anytime to bid or just to see how much the bid has gone up to. It's a convenience to put an item on the watch list if you don't want to bid on it yet but do not want to search for it again thru ebay.

the hash symbol # means number. So the # of watchers means the number of watchers.
