They don't do it because they thought of it their self it is something that is done to them when they are young.

Men want to control women so they set up a plan to make the older women who are bitter about life to cut them off the young girls.... then these girls can not reach climax and therefore become bitter old women.

The womans clitoris is removed and she is then sewn together with catgut. In some places women have to endure this often after marriage. Each time the husband leaves, he will have her sewn together. When he returns he will open her up with a two edged sword. This is more common with arabic women.

It's called female circumcision. It is a practice that is still done today in certain tribes as well as the middle east. Ya...guess you'd call it a right of passage if you take it as a tradition. One reason I heard is because it's supposed to keep women sexually under control. Unfortunatly it has horrible side effects beyond just sexual. My heart goes out to anyone who has ever had to endure this practice.

It is a coming of age thing. In some areas it's a religious thing (among some northern african countries such as Egypt. As well as Middle Eastern countries)
