In my personal opinion, I didn't think Xcaret was worth the price, but in fairness we only did a fraction of what was available. A lot of the stuff that you'd want to do you have to pay extra for. I thought that wasn't good considering the entrance fee was pretty high. I went with my wife, if we had kids then maybe I'd have a different opinion of the park, not sure.
You can spend a long time there if you want, all day and into the evening. They have a night show that's supposed to very good, we left and intended to go back but never did.
As for getting there, Taxi from PDC should be about $15. Alternately, The colectivo, will drop you off at the gate, that would only be a couple of bucks. Ask anyone in PDC, they'll direct you where to catch it. There's also a bus service that the park runs, not too sure about cost or schedule but I'm sure if you enquirer at one of the "travel agencies" (little kiosks at the ferry dock or on fifth ave that sell ferry tickets and tours) they'll fill you in. Ferry ride between Cozumel and PDC was $9 each way last time I was there.

I think Xcaret is totally worth it, beautiful place.
take the ferry from Cozumel to main land then bus to Xcaret is best option and cheap.
It has an underground river you can swim at, ruins to vist, horse show, beautiful beach to relax, a place to snorquel, swim with dolphis (extra charge).
If you don't want to spend in renting equipment, take your snorquel gear.
It has plenty of things to do for the whole day so plan to be there early and spend the day.
Take a bag with clothes, and toiletries, since at the end of the day you can take showers and change to regular clothes; and they have lockers that for a small fee you can rent for the day.
They have a night show with an accient ball game, a walk thru the caves with rituals and a show with dancing a music. Best thing, don't leave without seen it; and they have english and spanish groups to listen to the tour.
Don't miss it. Enjoy

A) Totally worth it!! Do prepare to spend some money though, there is so much to do, that you might not be able to do elsewhere, like swim with dolphins, scuba dive (amazing coral reef), sea walk (gorgeous), and much many more activities. There is also an aquarium, beach, pools, and restaurants to keep you busy all day long. All this is nothing compared to the amazing night show! Better than a Cirque du soleil Vegas show, truly wonderful!
B) Check at your concierge desk, they usualy have a nice package that includes the entrance to the park and the transportation.
C) Stay until they kick you out! Its fantastic!

there is a few place to swim with dolphins interior the Xcaret section. i did not bypass there. I extremely have heard good issues with reference to the cenotes from human beings. I extremely have been to the Mayan ruins at Tulum. It became very exciting, yet is became 108 F the day i became there. I took a liter sized bottle of water with me, happy I did. Xelha is on the way from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum, you should do the two on a similar day.

Look at a map dude. You ain't takin' no taxi from Cozumel to anywhere else. :)
And even if it wasn't an island, it's kinda far.
