Why is it men ask me this in the street? Total strangers. Are they offering to cheer me up? Is it a chat up line? Or is it just a man thing? You don't see many women saying it to you in the street.

I hate this.
When you're in a bad mood it's bad enough, but when you're in a fair mood, it's bloody annoying.
Maybe you need to smile on the street more...
Or just tell 'em to 'p.iss off'
It's a very man/builder thing to say, along with the clear sandwich box and bum hanging out the trousers.
But of course, me stereotypical! Never.
I got it frequently in London, but it was cold!
It's not a chat up line, it's just a cheer you up line/be rude and loud line.

Have a look in the mirror and be honest with yourself, do u think u r frowning, or your mouth goes downward? If the answer is yes, then thats why ppl r saying what they r saying to u. Make a real efford tomorrow to go out with a smile on yr face, i promise u, that u will get a much more positive response from ppl....:)

Why did he say that? I wasn’t upset or depressed or anything, I had just purchased a floral plastic table cloth to provide protection from the spiders living under our outdoor table and was thinking about eating eggs and bacon off it at our bdo breakfast bbq at the time. I don’t see how my face could have indicated that I needed cheering up.

i know what you are saying and it is so annoying! i am always rushing around but it doesn`t mean I'm miserable, i`m just concentrating on getting to where i have to go. women don`t do this sort of thing has you find there are no women on building sites and all the nutty woman are to busy to notice women without smiles on there faces. i would definitely say it is a man thing.

I can't bear it when people say that to me, because most of the time it ALREADY HAS HAPPENED! That's why the gloomy look¦-{
However in your case.....you must be gorgeous!!!! Maybe that's the only thing a man can think of to say to start a conversation with you!
So next time a hunky and yummy man say's those dreaded words to you again.......give him your most dazzling saying "yeah, that's what I'm worried about" lol

It is an old approach, going on for many years. I think a distant
but friendly smile does better, and if the lady wishes to talk, she
will smile back, ever so gently.

some people feel the need to interfere with other people.
i used to get old ladies approach me with my daughter in her buggy (with pig tails and wearing pink) and say ' what a lovely little boy!'
if i hit them then i'd be done for assult- no justice.
