hi,

There is a few ways. One way is not to restore it but to clean it and organize it. Use the Disk Defragment tool located on the START MENU, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS.

If you want to completely restore the computer, all you files will be deleted.

Check all the CD's that came with your Compaq, look for the "reinstallation cd" or "operating system" something like that, put in into your computer and restart. After restaring there will be something like "boot from cd, click any key" press a key and begin. When it comes to a certain point it will ask you to do a clean install or a repair, do a clean install, or it might say "format C: drive" something similar to that, then it will proceed, when it comes to the point that asks you about Partitions, choose the C: drive(the larger one) then choose "format using NTFS" (do not select the quick install one), then the rest is just entering your information.

then congrats, your computer is just like new again.

good luck
