Hmmm... I've had students curse at me, fight with each other, destroy school property, destroy MY property, hit me, bring weapons to class (although never a gun), defy me, and the list goes on. There's not much left for me to fear. I don't fear things like school shootings or gun violence; that's really very rare, even in the inner city neighborhood where I teach. I guess if there's one "nightmare" I have, it's that I'll be totally ineffective and all my kids will fail. As long as I can teach them something -- anything, even one thing -- I can avoid having my nightmare come true. Although sometimes it feels like I live that nightmare every day. Oh, how depressing that sounds.

I don't know about /worst/ nightmare, but I did have a student cuss me out and my "panic" button didn't work. Nor did my phone. And my classroom is down at the end of the hall and rather isolated. And the teacher in the next nearest classroom had planning.

Poor grammar aside, I was the most afraid that the student who, despite venting her frustrations through a raised voice and a poor choice of vocabulary, seemed to be building anger and emotion rather than releasing it was going to hit me and then I was going to get hurt. As a teacher, I know that I have to let the student connect before I can begin to defend myself. I had no real desire to be beaten up because a student had the lack of common sense to be, at the very least, discrete about breaking the rules.

I have this nightmare every now and then when I sleep. It's horrible. The basic premise is that my students realize they hold all the power and then refuse to do anything I ask of them. The last one I had like this involved every kid in the class banging on their desks in unison. What could I do in real life if students decided to do something like that? It freaks me out. Thank God I teach 8 year olds. They haven't figured it all out yet.

Worst nightmare... hmmm... hmmm...

Going into work to find out one more kid has been added to the class. Next, finding out that this kid has just been passed along like the other 35. Next, finding out this kid is actually a prostitute with AIDS and is making more in one night than I do in a month.

Yeah... that would be the ultimate in SUCK. Oh yeah, that's California and New York!

My worst nightmare is that a student will be injured in my classroom. I teach chemistry and physics, so there is a real danger to my students if they are not careful.

Dealing with a student with a gun. I only had one experience with this and it broke my heart. He only had the gun because friends of another student who had been murdered recently thought he was the one responsible.

Two things
1. a student with a weapon
2. being observed by the principal and the students will not cooperate.
