Nightcawler used to have many limits to his teleportation. He used to have to have line of sight and could only 'port a few hundred feet. He also had weight limits.... if he tried to take something too big or heavy it would cause him pain and/or alter the distance.
Currently, under optimal conditions, Nightcrawler can teleport 2 miles east or west, 3 miles north or south, and 2 miles vertically if he exerts himself....

Usually it's Line of Sight or a short distant away that he knows very well. (Scared to teleport into solid objects, may be painful).

...i think it is the length of a football field and he needs to be able to see the destination or have the real image in mind

It is three miles, but I have heard that can go further if he really pushes it.

HE CAN TELPORT ANYWHERE BUT HE HAS TO SEE WHERE HE'S GOING OR HE MIGHT MIGHT GET TRAPPED IN A WALL OR.
