My library is having a fundraiser on the 4th of November on Broadway in La Porte TX of vintage books from the 1830s to present the last fundraiser only made 75.00. Even though we had over 20,000 books the money goes to the children’s programs, which run 300.00 a program, and all or most unsold books are one or the other donated to a church or {shudder here} recycled.
My question is if you could make it would you.

That's terrible! Hard to believe that vintage books would just be recycled or trashed.
Yeah, if I could make it I would, but it's a bit too far for me, unfortunately.
However -- how large is La Porte? Is there a larger city nearby? Vintage books can be popular gift items (when's the next Christmas bazaar happening?) or popular decorating items, especially for offices. What you need is a stall at a flea market, where you can offer your books under a variety of disguises.
Good luck -- it's a wonderful idea and you just need to get a few people twigged in to it. Maybe you could make a sale the day before (for the benefit of press) to the mayor of your city? And he could place the book in the city archives or something of that sort. That way the press could publish a picture in the morning paper, with information about the sale. Or you might be able to talk a local DJ into doing a broadcast from the booksale site, and people could tell what they were going to do with the books, etc. which could stimulate sales for this year and for next year.
Good luck to you..... it's a worthwhile cause, and like you I hate to see old books just trashed.

Wow, that sounds like a wonderful thing! I wish I could go...I live in Longview, but I'm unable to walk due to arthritis and genetic joint problems. It sounds like you're doing a wonderful thing, tho. Good luck!
