I am doing a project for Science. I am in the 9th grade. I need to find products from home that have a element from the perodic table like copper, sodium, gold, nickel, calcium, etc.... The element should be a pure sample of the element, compound, or mixture. I need the labels as evidences. My project is due October 16, 2006. I need 20 products from 20 different elements. I also have another question does a battery have lithium in it? Does the tablet TUMS have calcuim in it?

9th grade...glad its you and not me.hahaha, okay lets see...copper--copper tubing at your local hardware store...calcium--tablets@walmart---sodium--rock salt also@walmart---gold--rings, necklaces??? nickel---some tools are nickle plated???(nickel), chlorine--In nature it is found in the combined state only, chiefly with sodium as common salt (NaCl), carnallite, and sylvite. Maybe you could get some at, once again, walmart, potassium The greatest demand for potash has been in its use for fertilizers. Potassium is an essential constituent for plant growth and is found in most soils.
helium---get a balloon filled with it
Except for hydrogen, helium is the most abundant element found in the universe. Helium is extracted from natural gas. In fact, all natural gas contains at least trace quantities of helium.

iodine--Kelp is the main source of natural iodine.
Baby formula has about 15 elements listed

Baking Soda Sodium Bicarbonate Sodium Na 3
Baking Soda Sodium Bicarbonate Carbon C 4
Air oxygen & nitrogen Nitrogen N 5
Small and large samples of aluminium foil, sheet, wire,

bromine--fumigants
flameproofing agents
water purification compounds
dyes
medicines

lead--cable covering, plumbing, ammunition

sulfar--Sulphuric acid has many uses, including for the synthesis of fertilisers and polyamides. It is used in batteries ("battery acid").

Batteries do contain lithium---lithium batteries i believe are the rechargable one
tums question---tablets contain calcium carbonate USP. The calcium carbonate in TUMS® is processed from pure limestone resulting in a high degree of purity.Lead occurs naturally everywhere in our environment. All animal and plant tissues contain small amounts of lead, as does the soil from which plants and plant-derived foods are grown. Consequently, nearly everything that we ingest - including water, cereals, fruits, vegetables and dairy products - contains lead in some small amount. Many calcium supplements with the active ingredient calcium carbonate (the most efficiently absorbed form of calcium), including TUMS, are derived from sources where trace amounts of lead occur naturally.

closing now, do well on your project and dont rely on the internet to do your homework...not yelling at ya, just be extra careful which answer you chose...some people are just rude and mean

Only lithium batteries have lithium in them, most batteries use copper or zinc. Tums does have calcium, but it isn't a pure sample.

Table salt is Sodium and Chlorine. Household bleach is usually 5% chlorine and water. It used to be you could use a coin for nickle or silver, but now they are composites. Pennies I believe are still copper. If you have any jewelery you can use that for gold or silver or if it's a diamond, then that's carbon. Most dinning utensils are alluminum, as are all soft-drink cans. Tin foil, or alluminum foil are good sources.

Sounds challenging. Good luck.

Gold--jewelry
Silver--jewelry
Sodium--table salt
Calcium--Milk, cereal

Look on the side of a cereal box or cracker box or any food label. It breaks down the nutrients in each food. You'll find some elements.
