I don't have experience in teaching but I've gone through a few English courses. I'm here where most people English standard is low. I'm going to teach an adult student who can hardly speak or write English, but he urgently need to learn because he is promoted to the customer service department. Am I right to start with Grammar-nouns, verbs, tenses; get him to understand the basic grammar structure, then teach him the common daily conversation? He only has two months for this especially the speaking part. I intend to make English teaching as my full time job and career.

Is there any recommendation of websites where I can refer to especially on the speaking part? Thanks.

First, I hope that he is going to be immersed in English completely for those 2 months. It is quite an undertaking to learn it in 2 months, but for customer service purposes I think that it can be done.

Start with greeting. Hello, how are you, good afternoon, etc.

Teach him pronouns, verbs and verb tenses. Start with present tense and get as much vocab as possible into him.

He needs to be hearing and practicing English constantly. Can he watch English TV? English radio? English newspapers and magazines? Are the English speakers that he can hang out with?

Because he needs to speak this it is important to speak with him. Do not give him worksheets and tedious repetitive work. Some worksheets are helpful for getting down some sentence structure and spelling, but speak with him as much as possible.

After he gets down the basics do pretend service calls with him. Make up scenarios that he may face and then teach him how to deal with them. He can even make a workbook/reference book so that he can look things up if he needs to when he is placed in the position.

I teach Spanish and French and do not find most sites to be that helpful. If you are going to try to use websites then choose a topic that the is having a hard time with and search for extra help in that area only.

Good luck!
