She and I have gone in different directions in life, we have been best friends for 15+ years but the last 3 or 4 have been one sided, she is not the kind of person i want talk, spend time with anymore. Here's the kicker -- i've been trying to let it "Drift away' for OVER A YEAR, i never call her back and she still calls me constantly, like every week (we live 1000's of miles apart) I have a busy career and life and feel guilty about not takign her calls, but i really just can't tolerate her anymore. WIthout getting into details, its been a long building end on my side, and the last straw happened a while back.

IF we met today, we would not be friends - nothing in common, very different values and lives. but we have a great past. I would like to keep the option open of a friendly chat if we bump into each other at christmas but that is it! Help?

i know exactly how you feel... i went through this a few years ago and i just had to sit my friend down and be honest with her. i wished her all the best and she departed in tears, i was in tears, and my husband was ecstatic... she was single, one child running wild in different relationships, and i was a mom of three married to mr.right, i was a christian she was a non-believer, just different paths, and we had been friends since we were 5 and we were 30 at that time. i do talk to her now ever once in awhile and if she needed me i would help her, as she would me, i still love her and her family, but we just can't be close.

of course friends can have a little in common but not always and i think its ok. i understand how you feel, but people just have to move on with their lives. People change and there's nothing you can do about it so let it go. For example you only see about 3 percent of your high school friends. you can't assume that they are same person. They have a life now and thats what you need to do. Just let it all go and relax a little even if she calls pick up the phone, if you don't feel like it, then don't. its up to you, so do what you got to do ok and you'll probably feel better. Best of luck! =D
